Word Of The Week - Self Compassion
•Posted on October 19 2020
You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.
Buddha
One of the biggest things we struggle with when creating our own damn magic is developing self-compassion. A lot of the time, we struggle with it because from a very early age we learn to compare ourselves not to our past selves, but to others instead, which pretty much seems normal to us, but in reality, makes us unable to be compassionate for ourselves.
When we put the spotlight on other people, when we reflect on other’s lives instead of our own, it’s hard to accept that our struggles and experiences matter as well. And this key issue is what cripples us and makes us always compare, instead of reflecting, be compassionate to ourselves instead of beating ourselves down.
And the thing is when you invest so much time in self-judgment and beating yourself up for every single mistake you do, instead of reflecting on it and learn from it, is that we slowly lose the capacity to stand up over and over again and face life.
Self-compassion is understanding that you are you and that you are and will be imperfect, you will make mistakes, but that’s the beauty, because from each mistake, from each act of self-compassion you will grow and create your own damn magic. So, be kind to yourself!
Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.
