This simple misconception is one of the biggest obstacles to happiness, and he digs further into it through the whole book.

If terrible things have happened to you, you ought to have grown wise. If the worst possible events have befallen you, you should be the wisest of the lot. But instead of growing wise, most people become wounded. In a state of conscious response, it is possible to use every life situation—however ugly—as an opportunity for growth. But if you habitually think, “I am the way I am because of someone else,” you are using life situations merely as an opportunity for self-destruction or stagnation.

His words have a deep impact on the reader because he doesn’t try to convince you of anything, in fact, his book is filled with various exercises he suggests to test out and see for yourself whether his words are true or not. Effortlessly, he speaks of how unhappiness, loneliness, stress affect us, why we struggle so much with them, and how through practicing yoga to open ourselves up to endless joy.

One thing that you shouldn’t expect from this book is sugarcoating. As in life, so in his book, Sadhguru remains truthful to the core, and always cuts straight to the issue. However, sometimes he likes to help you grasp the point through his hilarious anecdotes that might leave you in tears of laughter. And the most interesting thing that we loved is that every single one of them has a deep meaning that helps you learn as you read. We also loved that he talked about yoga in extent, and explains that the yoga that we encounter daily is just a pale imitation to the original teachings. He explains the different types of yoga, helps you understand the different layers of yourself, and offers you the pathway to joy. Definitely pick it up – it’s one of the best books that we have read this year, it’s completely life-changing!
