What to do When You are Feeling Too Anxious?
•Posted on January 31 2018
A lot of people seem to think that anxiety = fear. Well, it’s not really like that. Fear is a reaction our body has when we sense an imminent threat. It’s real, and it’s there. Anxiety is more of a worry, a constant worry that something might happen. It can be anytime, all time and about anything.
And I bet that most of you have experienced it at some point in their life, or worse, are constantly experiencing it. Anxiety takes its tool and it’s very hard to deal with. But don’t worry guys, we understand you and we got you! Here are some helpful tips on how to deal with anxiety!
1. Straighten your Perspective
With Anxiety, you are almost never at peace. There is simply always something to worry if you look closely. But, when you do have these episodes of constant worries that you can seem to shake off and they pile up, the best thing to do is to straighten your perspective. Here is a simple exercise on how to do so:
Ask yourself, if, in 5 years, this worry that you are having, will it really be important to you, or will it float away like most of your worries? Will it have a life-changing impact on your life? If not, then it’s not important and you should let it go.
There are so many things to worry about, but there are also so many things that you can enjoy. And the truth is, the constant worrying won’t be something that you will remember, but the joy you felt will always make your heart jump and you will surely remember it.
2. Treat yourself!
When you are constantly anxious, it’s good to be a little organized. Make sure that every day, you have a general plan, and in that plan, always make sure to make time to have a nice relaxing time for yourself. Whether it is aromatherapy, having a nice long bath, a walk, or spending some quality time with your pets, whichever you prefer, or you can even do all of them. After all, life is an experience that should be enjoyed!
3. Be productive!
When you are overly anxious, being productive might just be the best thing to do. By making yourself busy you are practically not leaving space for your mind to wander on unnecessary places. So, you get to get things done and skip out a session of anxiety. Double win!
4. Meditate
Meditation and practicing mindfulness are definitely very helpful in the battle against anxiety. By getting to know yourself and learning why anxiety occurs, by learning how to calm yourself, and how to accept yourself, you can definitely beat anxiety. Meditation is a journey and a process, you have to be committed but it’s definitely worth exploring because the only thing you can lose is anxiety.
Extra Tip: When having a sudden anxiety attack and you start panicking, a great way to help reduce your anxiety is blowing some bubbles. Yes, it might be childish but, who doesn’t like blowing bubbles? Plus by blowing bubbles you shift your focus on the bubbles, and you keep your breathing under control.
5. Dance your soul off!
In a lot of studies, it is proven that moving and walking can help reduce anxiety. We encourage you to take it to the next level and turn up your favorite songs, sing them and dance hardcore to them! You will have fun, you will do a lot of moving for sure and by focusing on the lyrics you will shift your attention from mindlessly worrying about unimportant things. So, dance your soul off!
