Hello, fellow book readers!

How is summer going for you? Did you already plunge yourself into your newest summer reading adventure? Or have you already ran out dry, with all the extra time that you have for reading? If you have, don’t worry because we are here to share an amazing book with you this week as well. A sort of memoir that will teach you one of the most important things in your life. We are talking about the Art Of Asking by Amanda Palmer of course.

Why should you read the Art Of Asking by Amanda Palmer?

Now, asking in itself might not seem like the scariest thing in the world, but anyone who had to ask for something that they needed desperately, even from their closest family and friends, understands how asking can be difficult. But, why should it be difficult? Why is it so difficult for us to rely on others? These are the questions that Amanda discusses in her book.

Through her career as a punk-cabaret performer, she had to ask for a lot of things. Her beginning years she spent as a live statue, where she literally had to ask for every dollar (maybe not in words, but you get the point) so that she can book places, and buy her equipment for performance. And through her whole career, she asked a lot of things of her fans, but mostly for their support.

When you openly, radically trust people, they not only take care of you, they become your allies, your family. Sometimes people will prove themselves untrustworthy. When that happens, the correct response is not: Fuck! I knew I couldn’t trust anybody! The correct response is: Some people just suck. Moving right along.

Amanda Palmer, The Art of Asking; or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help

From couch surfing on fans couches to passing a hat for some extra cash to asking for food and advice through her twitter account. She’s done it all. And what first started as guilt and shame for asking, transformed her and helped her grow beyond her insecurities, and helped her understand that in life, you can’t always do things on your own. And it’s okay. It’s okay to ask, and feel unashamed.

Beyond her quirky stories and memoirs, and experiences, through her words, you will also grow. And that’s what we loved about this book the most, which is why we wholeheartedly recommend it to add it to your reading list!

There's really no honor in proving that you can carry the entire load on your own shoulders. And...it's lonely
