The intent is what sends a Shaman through a wall, through space, to infinity.
Carlos Castaneda
In ancient times, shamans were the wisest people of the entire tribe, and they got their knowledge by doing a shamanic journey. But, what exactly is a shamanic journey? A shamanic journey is a special state only shamans knew how to induce, and through these journeys, they became stronger and wiser. However shamanic journeying doesn’t refer to traveling from one place to another, but rather to travel to different spirit worlds.
What is Shamanic Journeying?
Their wisdom and knowledge came from the Shamanic journeys that they often induced. Through special rituals, chants, movements, plants, and herbs, the Shamans induced in a state called a Shamanic journey. It is said that during this state they were able to walk between spirit worlds and acquire knowledge beyond imagination.
Through these journeys, a Shaman had to be careful and respectful of the spirits in the other world and to learn as much as possible from them. Each Shamanic journey strengthened the Shamans' connection with Nature, and from each journey, the Shaman returned wiser. The lifelong process of journeying between worlds, contacting different spirits, and helping others with the knowledge that was acquired, turned Shamans into profound healers and emissaries of Mother Nature, capable of taking care of the whole tribe.
