Word of the Week – Anxiety
•Posted on March 06 2019
In our very modern lives, with our very modern careers, and endless tasks, it seems that more often, more and more of us have a constant companion in our lives. We are talking about the word, that you hear very often these days of course – anxiety. One of the worst companions of the modern age, that you can easily pick up, but its very hard to shake off. Because of that difficulty, living with anxiety has become widely accepted as a new way of life of struggles. But why should it be this way? Why should you succumb to anxiety? And what the hell is anxiety anyway?
What is anxiety?
There is an old saying that goes like this – “If you are worried about the past, then you are dealing with depression, but if you are worried about the future, then you are dealing with anxiety”. Truer words have never been spoken.
If you find yourself constantly worrying about how many tasks you have tomorrow, how much work you will have to do, the people that you are going to meet, the people you might meet, the things that will never be, but somehow they stumbled into your mind as a possible version of your future – and all of these worries keep you awake at night – welcome to the club of anxiety, we hope you will leave it as soon as possible!
That horrifying thought process usually starts in the minds of over thinkers, but sometimes even the best of us succumb to these worries. Part of it is to blame the type of lives we lead, part of it is to blame our surroundings, but the biggest part is ourselves. Anxiety, comes when you are trying to escape so far off this moment, that even the most impossible scenario in your mind gives you a reason to worry. It starts as a simple escape, but as you continue to escape, it transforms into a monster that drains you completely.
But, anxiety doesn’t have to have power over you. Because you are in charge. Because you hold the power on which anxiety is fueled. You can keep thinking of what might be, or you can settle down here, in the land of what is happening right here, right now, in this very moment in which you are alive. You hold the power!
Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's strength- carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.
