Navigating Self-Doubt While Building Your Dreams
•Posted on March 04 2025

Can we talk about self-doubt for a second? Because, whew—she’s persistent. She creeps in when things are moving too slowly, when success feels too far away, when you're on the edge of a big breakthrough but can’t quite see the next step. And if you’ve ever felt like your dreams might be too big for you—trust me, I get it.
I’ve been on this journey of building My Little Magic Shop for a while now, and self-doubt has been a frequent visitor. From the very beginning, when I questioned whether enough people would connect with my vision, to the day I opened my physical store and thought, What if no one walks in? What if they think it's ugly? What if I just made the biggest mistake of my life? And let’s not even get started on the days when I wonder if I have what it takes to get from where I am now to where I want to be.
Some days, that doubt has me spiraling. Other days, it just makes me pause. But over time, I’ve realized something important: self-doubt is part of the process. It’s not proof that I’m failing—it’s proof that I’m growing.
When Self-Doubt Creeps In
For me, self-doubt usually sneaks in through three main doors:
-
Overthinking – Am I moving fast enough? Am I making the right choices? What if I’m missing a huge opportunity and don’t even realize it?
-
Fear of failure – What if I pour everything into this and it still doesn’t work? What if I fail and have nothing to show for it?
-
Perfectionism – If it’s not exactly right, does that mean I shouldn’t move forward? What if it’s not as good as I imagined?
Sound familiar?
When I first started, I didn’t always know how to deal with these thoughts. I would get stuck in my head, sometimes even shut down for a bit. But then I learned to pause and reframe. I remind myself: most people don’t even start. And even those who do? Most of them fail multiple times before they succeed. The key isn’t avoiding failure—it’s learning from it.
How I Move Through Self-Doubt
Now, when doubt creeps in, I lean on a few practices that help me move through it rather than get stuck in it:
- Reframing Failure – I remind myself that failure isn’t a dead-end; it’s a stepping stone. Everything is Fcked* by Mark Manson helped me see that resilience is what creates success. It’s not about feeling entitled to an outcome—it’s about showing up, doing the work, and adjusting as you go.
- Giving Myself Permission to Create – Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic was a game-changer for me. She talks about how ideas are floating in the ether, waiting for someone to bring them to life. Even if other people are doing something similar, no one else can do it like you can. Your voice, your perspective, your magic make it unique.
- Using Tarot for Clarity – Whenever I feel stuck, I pull a few cards. Tarot helps me tap into what’s really going on beneath the surface—what’s fear, what’s intuition, and where I need to shift my focus.
- Listening to Stories of Resilience – I love books and podcasts that remind me that everyone struggles with doubt, uncertainty, and setbacks. Knowing that even the most successful people have been in my shoes makes my own journey feel more normal.
- Letting Myself Feel It (But Not Dwell in It) – Self-doubt isn’t a sign to stop. It’s an invitation to check in. Sometimes, instead of trying to push it away, I sit with it. I ask myself, Where is this coming from? What am I really afraid of? And then, I gently remind myself that I’ve come so far—and I’m not stopping now.
The Truth About Dream-Chasing
No one tells you that building your dreams means constantly managing self-doubt. It’s not something you conquer once—it’s something you learn to dance with. And honestly? That’s okay.
If you’re feeling unsure, questioning yourself, or wondering if you have what it takes—you do. The fact that you care this much? That you’re thinking this deeply? That’s proof that you’re on the right path.
So keep going, Magic Maker. Your dreams are valid. Your path is unfolding exactly as it should. And if you ever need a reminder, just come back to this:
You are not behind. You are not failing. You are becoming.
