One of the most common misconceptions is that mental and emotional health are the same thing. Although they are closely related, emotional health is an entirely new world when it comes to creating your own magic. Think of it this way – thoughts become emotions. In your thought process, you are filtering information and you are processing it. Then your thoughts, become emotions based on the information you have. However, emotional health is referring to the ability to express your emotions in a healthy way. In a way, your emotional wellbeing is a key element on how you express yourself.

Why is it important to express yourself?

We, as humans are social beings. We thrive when we have a healthy relationship with ourselves and with people who are dear to us. However, when your emotional wellbeing is out of whack, it’s very hard to maintain a healthy relationship with anyone, even yourself. Learning how to express yourself, to yourself and others is very important because it will save you from extra stress, anxiety and worsening relationships with the people in your life. It also helps you to realize which relationships you need to cherish and which to let go.

When you are emotionally healthy, you understand your emotions better and it allows you to resolve past emotional trauma. It will also help you to be more at peace with yourself, and to understand when you need to take time off to pick yourself together, and move on stronger instead of letting the past drag you down.

How to improve your emotional health?

To become healthier, and ensure that your emotional wellbeing is excellent is not an easy task. But it is necessary for your personal development and growth. Is an absolute must in creating your own damn magic. Here are some tips on how to improve your emotional health:

- Stop worrying

Worrying about what will happen tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and the day after that, and slowly spinning into a spiral of anxiety and stress for situations that might, or might never happen is one of the worst things that you could do to harm your emotional health. It’s easier said than done, but learning how not to worry will be the best time that you will invest in yourself in the long term. Whenever we can’t stop worrying for whatever reason and start spinning into a pit with no magic whatsoever, we like to remind ourselves of this quote:

If a problem is fixable, if a situation is such that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry. If it's not fixable, then there is no help in worrying. There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever.

- Practice self-discipline

Letting your thoughts and emotions control you, instead of the other way around is what got you unhealthy in the first place. If you want to turn things around and create your own damn magic, you will have to be a bit harsh to yourself, but in a good way. Rather than self-judgment, practice self-discipline.

- Make time for your Me-Time

The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I'm not going to let myself pull me down anymore.

In this unhealthy modern way of life, filled with so many obligations we are often putting ourselves on the last place. Day by day, time passes and yet every day seems the same to you. And why is that? Perhaps because you are so used to living your life under constant pressure – as we are all. Furthermore, even when there are brief moments without pressure, stress, depression, and anxiety make sure to fill the gap.

So, when exactly are you living? When exactly can you develop self-love and become healthy if you continue the same way of life? That’s right, to continue the growth you have to live and to live you have to make the time for it. Read more on how to do it here.

- Learn More & Experience More

One of the most common emotions that keeps you in your comfort zone is fear. However, if you don’t move past fear, you will never grow. So, learn more, especially about things that frighten you to avoid any misconceptions and lower fear levels. Experience more from life by doing one thing differently a week, even if it’s sitting down in the new café you wanted to visit for ages but couldn’t make the time for it. Even finding a new hobby can help you transform and grow. Rise above, and take a step forward to overcome your fears.

- It’s okay to say NO

Guilt tripping yourself because you said “No” is one of the worst emotional patterns to hold on to. You have to understand that your wellbeing comes before everything else, and to preserve it you shouldn’t overextend yourself. Especially for people who continuously take from you, and enhance your toxic emotional patterns.

- Be realistic

The most important thing for your emotional and mental wellbeing is to be realistic. It’s very easy to slip into all of your negative patterns by not seeing the bigger picture and being more realistic. The other thing is, you also have to be realistic and true to yourself. If you want to get healthier, you can’t keep lying to yourself. Instead, adopt a no BS policy towards yourself. No more excuses, no more trips to dreamland where everything bad that you can imagine is a possible reality, no more self-judgment. Be true to yourself.
