July Monthly Horoscope 2020

Dear readers, we’re in for a packed month! With two eclipses, five retrograde planets, dreamy Neptune stationing towards retrograde and Mars entering fiery Aries for the rest of the year, we’re likely to feel pulled in all directions as the Universe prompts us to stay rooted in our beliefs, our emotions and our personal power more than ever.

We’re starting June with a delightful conjunction between the Sun and Venus in Gemini on the 3rd. It’s a great day for love, friendship and poetry! At the same time, Mars in Pisces squares Venus on the 2nd and the Sun on the 6th, bringing up themes linked to assertion and people-pleasing in our relationships. On the 5th, a Full Moon Eclipse in Sagittarius, with the South Node of karma, brings a moment of fruition and release in our lives. What has come full circle in your life in the areas of travel, higher education, beliefs and spirituality? What beliefs and aspirations do you need to strengthen and which ones belong to the past? Squaring Mars and Neptune and opposing Venus, this Eclipse will be about finding and speaking our truth in our relationships, avoiding extremes of both inflexibility or too much ‘going with the flow’. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, especially with planets around the 16th degree, will be the signs for which this Eclipse can bring fated events in the areas of knowledge, beliefs and relationships, asking for a balanced approach, a compromise that stays true to our values.

The week between the 7th and the 13th of June is marked by Neptune, the god of dreams, illusions and unconditional love. He will be stationing towards retrograde for the better part of the month, making it a pivotal time for anything linked to dreams, spirituality, compassion or the arts. On the 11th, his square to the Gemini Sun prompts us to stay mindful of misunderstandings and illusions, doing our best to see a situation clearly, beyond idealization. On the 13th, Neptune conjuncts warrior Mars in Pisces, marking a time when our desires and our impulses to action can be unclear, as if someone’s blurred the contours of our energy. In the aftermath of the Sagittarius Eclipse, this week is not the best time to make major decisions. Reflect, make adjustments and take a proactive stance when dealing with the energy of Neptune by meditating, praying or making art.

On the 18th, it’s the start of a new Mercury retrograde season! Until July 12, Mercury will appear to move backward in the home-loving sign of Cancer, prompting us to reconsider our past, our childhood memories, our home design, our choices in real estate and our relationship with those people who are closest to our hearts. Thoughts can be difficult to separate from feelings during this time, so connect to your intuition and brainstorm ways to deal with at least some degree of miscommunication. Get ready to take a trip to the past and, as with any Mercury retrograde, double-check your e-mails, appointments and contracts. On the 19th, the Sun conjunct the North Node at the end of Gemini could bring some interesting news, while starting with the 20th, Cancer season gently eases us into a month when coziness and security will be at the top of our lists. Enjoy spending time with loved ones and connecting to your sensitive, nurturing side!

On the 21st, an Annular Solar Eclipse in the first degree of Cancer brings our focus once again on home, security, emotional receptivity and feminine power. This is one of the last eclipses in the two-year Cancer-Capricorn cycle that has revolutionized the way we approach social rules, hierarchies, power and security, and it can be a powerful moment for setting intentions of softness, emotional sensitivity, receptivity and courage that comes from vulnerability. The Eclipse’s quincunx with Saturn in Aquarius shows that we need to find a way to integrate both our sensitive and our detached, progress-oriented side, while a distant square with Mars prompts us to find healthy ways of fighting for our security. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, especially with planets around the 1st degree, will be the signs for which this Eclipse can bring fated events in the areas of home, family, security, heritage and emotion. Bringing more watery energy into the mix, Neptune starts his annual retrograde on the 23rd, prompting us to go within and to connect more to our spiritual, compassionate side in the following months.

On the 25th, Venus goes direct, wrapping up our recent experiences in the area of love, relationships and resources. What insights have you gained during this Venus retrograde? What unfinished business has been solved and how can you move forward with more self-love and appreciation from now on? Important events in the area of relationships or finances can take place around the 24th-26th of June. Finally, on the 27th, passionate Mars enters his home sign Aries, where he will stay for the rest of the year, alternating between direct and retrograde motion. This is a major one! Mars in Aries equips us with sound instinct, courage and power of action, supporting our independence and our free spirit. In the following months, we will learn to manage our anger, to better deal with past conflicts and to be more assertive. By the end of the year, we will have a clearer idea about who we are and what we want to do!

On the 1st of July, steady Saturn backpedals into Capricorn, where he will continue his retrograde motion until September 29. We’re familiar with the energy of Saturn in Capricorn- a no-nonsense, hard-working, often stern approach to life- from the past three years, so these last months of retrogradation will prompt us to reconsider things and to tie up loose ends when it comes to our career, our responsibilities, our self-discipline and long-term goals.

On the 5th, a Lunar Capricorn Eclipse shows the results of what we’ve been up to in the past months and, more generally, in the past two years in our professional lives. It’s a time when hard work can be rewarded, old opportunities revisited and harmful attitudes left behind. We’re called to let go of the shadow side of the Goat: excessive criticism and pressure, emotional repression, blind ambition, and find a middle point between what we want to achieve (Capricorn) and what makes us feel safe and nurtured (Cancer). Around the 8th, let’s stay mindful of opinion clashes with family or with loved ones, finding a way to speak our mind with gentleness and confidence at the same time. Finally, on the 11th, wounded healer Chiron goes retrograde in self-oriented Aries, so from around the 8th to the 18th stay mindful if old wounds linked to self-assertion, independence and sexuality get reactivated. Be patient and gentle with whatever comes up for you these days and read between the lines to find the healing potential of difficult situations.

Around the 12th, it’s a perfect time to rest and to dream. Leave practical matters for another time if you can- we won’t be at peak efficiency, especially since Mercury’s direct station in Cancer brings a last wave of nostalgia and emotional release. Huddling together with loved ones and a little escapism might be just what we need these days. The good news is that Mercury retro mix-ups are finally done with! What new insights into old problems, perhaps linked to childhood, family or home, has Mercury brought you this time? The focus on family, community and belonging continues with the Sun in Cancer and brings some challenges on the 14th and the 15th as Sol opposes Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. We might find ourselves torn between emotion and reason, family and work, our inner child and our inner responsible adult. Let’s stay mindful of how these contradictions play out within ourselves, but especially in our relationships with family and authority figures. With a smoldering Chiron-Mars conjunction in Aries on the 14th, the need to assert ourselves and to follow our impulses, healing past blockages, is also a powerful motivator.

On the 20th, we have this summer’s second New Moon in Cancer- as if we needed any extra reminders that empathy, community and connection to our feminine power are this season’s themes! This is a New Moon with multiple challenges that calls us to listen to our intuition and to take care of our inner child while also upholding the real-life responsibilities that structure and give purpose to our lives. Let’s stay mindful if we tend to identify with one of two extremes: the needy child or the rigid overachiever, and take one small step- towards ourselves or towards someone who triggers us- to balance things out as we set our intentions for the new cycle. On the 22nd, the Sun’s transit into Leo brings a palpable shift of energy: the days are long, the sun is up, it’s time to let go of the past and have some fun for a change. Let’s seek out ways to let our playful inner child loose!

The last week of July is a Neptunian one: hazy, magical and prone to shameless daydreaming. Around the 27th, it’s time to reconsider our aspirations and our fantasies, especially in the area of relationships as Neptune sends a square to love goddess Venus and a sextile to expansive Jupiter. We’re ready to move forward in our relationships after Venus retro season, but it’s still helpful to keep our feet on the ground as we solve some communication issues that took off at the beginning of the month. With brainy Mercury opposing Jupiter and trining Neptune, creative writing, reminiscing and inner child work can be helpful tools this week. It’s a time to weave dreams and to open our heart, finding compassion as we also keep things practical- this week, we can tie up loose ends in matters linked to relationships, family, communication, and learning.
