Meditations 101 - The Power of Om

We have all seen it in many movies – a monk is trying to meditate and he chants “Om”. Funny enough when I talk to people, they always think that every meditation consists of sitting cross-legged and chanting “Om”. But is it really so? Of course not guys! There are many types of Meditations and this is just one. But before we lead you on our little Meditation journey and techniques I think this is a great place to start.

So, why exactly through this type of Meditation it is required to chant “Om”?

The Mantra “Om” (you can check out what Mantras are here) comes from the language Sanskrit. And when you speak this language properly you are speaking on a different frequency than usual. Everything on this planet and this Universe gives off some sort of frequency or a vibration. While chanting you lower your frequency or to be more exact – 432Hz – the same frequency of Nature itself. There are also beliefs that this frequency is the one that the Universe itself gave off when it was starting to expand.

What do you gain by chanting it?

By lowering your frequency while chanting it, your whole body begins to vibrate on this particular frequency. It slows the nervous system, which means it helps you to calm your mind during Meditation. Your body begins to regain its natural balance, psychological and physical.

How to Meditate with this Mantra?

  • Sit cross-legged. (Just like in those movies)

  • Make sure your back is straight.

  • Try to calm down, breathe in, and breathe out. Repeat this a couple of times.

  • Start chanting “Om”. You should repeat this Mantra at least three times.

  • While Meditating you will get to feel the different vibration, and  your body will feel different, more calm and more peaceful.

*** The main thing to achieve through this Meditation is the balance, and that can only be felt. Try to focus on your bloodstream or heartbeat while you are chanting it. It has a unique calming effect.

And that’s it for today guys! I hope you enjoyed this and found it helpful. Stay tuned to our blog posts, we will be doing different Meditations and Meditation techniques in the next few weeks!
