Have you always wondered why healing your Root Chakra is essential when it comes to creating your own damn magic? The Root Chakra or Muladhara is the very first chakra in your chakra system - the ground upon which you build yourself up. That is why it’s very important to understand how your root chakra works, what are the signs of imbalance, and how to keep it in check regularly.

What Are Chakras?

The energy centers in your body are split into three main sections:

  • Feminine Energy – left side of your body – represented by the Moon.

  • Chakra Energy – the center of your body

  • Masculine Energy – right side of your body – represented by the Sun.

When energy flows properly through all of your energy sections, then you are in perfect balance. However, it’s not enough to simply create balance, it’s also important to maintain it.

The middle part of your body is a major energy center devoted to the chakra energy within your body. Furthermore, this section is divided into seven subsections or seven chakras, each with a specific role.

The seven chakras represent the seven energy centers in your body. Placed in a vertical line along the length of your spine, each chakra has a different function in your life. When your chakras are balanced, no matter what storm comes in your life - you will always endure it. However, even though the chakras can be talked about individually, they are also split among themselves according to their nature:

  • Chakras Of Matter – The Root Chakra, The Sacral Chakra & The Solar Plexus Chakra – they are the chakras that dwell in the physical realm of our existence. They represent a connection with ourselves.

  • The Bridge – The Heart Chakra is the bridge and connection between the chakras of matter and chakras of spirit. It represents the connection to others through love and kindness.

  • Chakras Of Spirit – Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra & The Crown Chakra -  they are the chakras that dwell in our spiritual realm of existence. They represent the connection to the Universe and all that there is.

What Is The Root Chakra?

The Root Chakra - Muladhara (in Sanskrit) is the first chakra of the chakras of matter and all chakras. It’s the baseline, of the foundation upon you build yourself up energetically and transform yourself as you grow. As a baseline, it’s function lies in your survival instincts the most, and your basic, primitive animalistic nature that helped us survive and then evolve over the years.

The Sanskrit name Miladhara comes from the two words - Mula which means “root” and Adhara which means “base”. Think of the Root Chakra as the baseline upon which you build your spiritual being upwards as a neverending building that goes upwards with every passing day in your life. Before you begin building anything up, you want to make sure that the foundation is solid, firm and it can hold off the weight of the entire building - right?

Similar to that, when you want to work on personal growth, spiritual growth, self-exploration, or anything that has to do with creating your own damn magic, you have to start from the base up, so that everything you’ve worked on so hard, doesn’t crumble and fall apart.

The Root Chakra is the base source of life energy, and it governs security, meeting your basic needs, safety, grounding, and fearlessness. Thousands of years ago, when we weren’t really conscious, the energy of this chakra was dominant, fueling our life energy and instincts, helping us survive to evolve up until this day.

On an instinctual level, the Root chakra is the energy center that supplies you with the motivation to start the day, meet your basic needs – food, water, and procreation. On an individual personal growth level, the Root Chakra is the energy center that governs inner strength, perseverance, stability, and how we esteem ourselves.

How To Know Whether Your Root Chakra Is Imbalanced?

In other words, the Root Chakra is all about seeing the bigger picture and understanding where exactly we belong in it. When the Root chakra is balanced, you will feel like you have found a home and inner self haven, and you will feel a beautiful sense of belonging to the world and yourself. However when this balance is disturbed, the signs can be seen all over your life, and even physical symptoms may occur.

Whether your chakra is underactive, overactive, or blocked – it’s important to understand properly how the disbalance occurred so that you can more easily balance the root. The three major issues that you can experience connected to root chakra imbalance are underactive, overactive, or blocked root chakra.

Signs Of An Underactive Root Chakra

If your Root Chakra is underactive, your sense of belonging will be very shaky. Feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, feeling like you don’t belong anywhere are very common emotions when your Root Chakra is underactive.

Remember, your root chakra is your energy center of security and belonging – these are the primary and most basic functions of your root chakra – so if you feel like you don’t belong, you are in need of replenishing your root chakra with energy.

Signs Of An Overactive Root Chakra

One of the most major issues that you will be facing when your root chakra is overactive is anxiety. The Root Chakra is a center of instincts that help you meet your most basic needs so that you can achieve a sense of security in your life. Over the years, as we evolved so did our basic needs.

If you notice you are anxious and you are constantly focused on thinking, re-thinking, and overthinking how to meet your basic needs in the future even though they are met in the present, then your root chakra is definitely overactive. If you experience any of these symptoms, then you are in need or rebalancing the life energy of your root chakra.

Signs Of A Blocked Root Chakra

If your root chakra is blocked, then the most common issue that you might be facing is fear. As a center of security, whenever the energy is blocked, built up, and not flowing at all, fear will creep up in your life.

Phobias, fear of the unknown, self-doubting, and any kind of excessive fear is a major sign that there is a blockage in your root chakra. Sometimes, fear can be justified, it’s a natural emotion to experience, however, if you find yourself fearing everything, all day long, then your root chakra is definitely in need of unblocking.

Other signs of blockage or imbalance also include:

  • Excessive negativity, cynicism

  • Eating disorders

  • Greed, avarice

  • Illusion

  • Excessive feeling of insecurity, living in survival mode constantly

Sound Healing For Root Chakra

Everything in the Universe emits a certain type of frequency. Even us. By using these frequencies and understanding them better we can affect ourselves and our body to change ourselves. For example, let’s say that you want to bring more positive vibes into your life. You start by changing yourself, your very frequency you emit and then you apply different techniques that allow you to stay in that magical state of joy. So, where exactly do sounds fit into this story?

Well, sounds are in fact waves, that stimulate a different part of our brain and body. Just think of it this way, when you hear different types of music, it changes your mood and emotions, right? So, different sounds affect us and can change our emotions, and by changing our emotions, we can change the frequency we are emitting. By doing so we can open and heal our Root Chakra. Here are some sound healing tools that can help you heal the root chakra:

Sit on your chair with your back straight.

Breathe in and breathe out. Feel how your breathing fills your chest with air.

Focus on your heartbeat. Listen to how your heart beats inside your chest.

Now bring your focus over your overall body. Feel how your blood pulses in your veins.

Focus on how your heart and blood flow are perfectly synchronized.

Now, focus on how your blood travels. Feel how it’s pumped from your heart to your fingers. Feel how they tingle when the blood reaches the tips.

Take a deep, calming breath.

Now, visualize the Root Chakra at the bottom of your torso, below your belly button, at the bottom of your spine. Visualize darkness, with one red light flickering.

Now focus on enhancing the energy of the root chakra with every breath you take.

Visualize the root chakra getting brighter, the red getting more vibrant, and the darkness lifting with each breath you take.

Feel the life energy within you increasing as you take each breath. Breathe in and out.

Breathe in and breathe out. Smile, because you cherish every part of your body, every part of harmony within it. Be grateful for being able to sense such synchronicity as the one your body offers.

Breathe in and breathe out. Open your eyes when you feel ready.
